FAQ
Who can belly dance?
Anyone! Belly dance is very approachable at the beginner level. It’s relatively low-impact, easy to adjust for varying skill levels, and more physically intuitive than other forms of dance. All bodies are welcome! You do not have to be a certain size or age to belly dance. I first started dancing as an awkward 15-year-old and managed to feel good about myself and have fun. You can too!
Why belly dance?
It’s fun, it’s good exercise, it’s an artistic outlet, it helps you become more in tune with your body, and it can introduce you to new friends! There are all kinds of reasons to dance. Whether you want to dance on a stage one day or you’re just looking to get a fun workout once a week, belly dance has a lot to offer.
What should I wear?
Something comfortable you would wear to work out in – I suggest a t-shirt or tank top and some stretchy yoga pants, leggings or shorts. We don’t dance in shoes, but you may use ballet slippers or other dance shoes if you prefer. Also, bring a water bottle! You’re probably going to sweat a little.
Can I drop in?
Currently, the only option is for students to enroll in six-week sessions.
If I already have belly dance experience, will I be bored?
All levels of students benefit from practicing the basics, but I will provide optional layers and levels of difficulty for those who want more of a challenge.
Is there an age limit for this class?
People can belly dance at any age, but the gym does not allow small children in the studios, so no little ones, please!
Do you teach on any other days of the week?
I also teach on Mondays from 7:30-8:20 at Sanctuary Bodyworks in Fells Point.
Do you offer performance opportunities?
Baltimore is home to a thriving belly dance community, so there are many local haflas (community showcases) in the area that provide a space for students to perform. (Or attend!) Performing is never a requirement, but there may be occasional sessions dedicated to learning a simple choreography that students may have the opportunity to perform at a local venue. I encourage any interested student to attend local haflas as an audience member to get a feel for the scene.
Where do I park?
There is an on-site parking garage, and the MAC validates up to two hours. The entrance is on S. Exeter St, right across from the Whole Foods.
What is your refund policy?
I do not offer refunds.
